How Yazidi At School Started
Our journey began with a simple belief: that displacement should not mean the end of education. We started on the ground, in the heart of the community we serve.
Mam Rashan Camp
The co-founders of Yazidi At School launched the first physical English language courses inside the Mam Rashan IDP camp in Kurdistan, bringing hope directly to the students.
Going Digital
Recognizing the need for wider access and safety, Yazidi At School transitioned all classes to an online format, allowing us to recruit professional teachers from all over the world.
The Evolution of the School
When Yazidi At School was founded, the goal was to address the massive educational gap caused by the 2014 genocide. Many of our students are young adults who had their schooling violently interrupted over a decade ago. We realized that English proficiency was the most requested skill, serving as a gateway to international communication and higher education.
By moving our campus online, Yazidi At School removed the physical and geographical barriers that often stop IDP students from learning. Today, we focus on a curriculum of acquisition and implicit learning, ensuring that every hour spent in our "virtual classroom" is an investment in a student's dignity and future career prospects.
